Thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning are likely to strike different districts of West Bengal from March 20 to 22 (2025), said an official of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata. The weather variability is due to a trough running from central Odisha to Vidarbha and wind confluence over east India. These conditions can have light to moderate rain and could interrupt the match.
The IMD report states that:
- Heavy thunderstorms with lightning are very likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on the 20th & 21st of March 2023.
- An alert orange is in effect until March 22.
- The Eden Gardens match could be temporarily interrupted by rain showers and gusty winds.
Effect on IPL 2025 Opening Ceremony
The high-profile opening ceremony involving Bollywood diva Disha Patani and star singers Shreya Ghoshal and Karan Aujla is also likely to be affected by inclement weather. The ground staff at Eden Gardens has already made arrangements by covering the entire playing zone, presaging rain.
Is KKR vs RCB Match Going to be Played?
The final call will be made based on the real-time weather at the venue. Continuous rain within the time slot of the match may result in delays, breaks or complete flocking. But there are chances that if the showers are sporadic, the match can be completed depending on the weather, and the DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) will come into play.
